Truth & Reconciliation Resources & Events 2024

With thanks to Tara Sparrow-Felix, WPGA parent, for providing the introduction and all resources/links below to events and activities honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is September 30, 2024.

In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, this day provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic legacy of residential schools. It is meant to honour First Nations, Inuit, and Métis survivors, their families, and their communities, and to ensure that the public commemoration of their history and the legacy of residential schools remain a vital part of the reconciliation process.

We are encouraging members of our community to use this day to engage in education and to reflect on how we may support reconciliation efforts with residential school survivors, and all of those affected by these tragedies.

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
