Kindergarten - Grade 3

PRIMARY PROGRAM

The primary program is the foundation for learning at WPGA. Literacy and numeracy are the focus, with teachers using digital applications and kinesthetic/sensory tools to support learning.

  • Specialists teach French, Mandarin or Spanish, music, art, library learning, daily PE, and educational technology using school and family-owned devices.
  • Indigenous curriculum is woven into all subjects, guided by the Junior School Indigenous Education Coordinator.
  • Music is integrated from JK, with formal blocks in kindergarten to grade 2. The choral program begins in grade 3. From grade 4, students begin the instrumental music program, working with our music teachers to select a strings or pre-band stream. In grade 5, students in the band program practice woodwind and brass instruments to explore the best instrument for them.
  • Our counsellors oversee our signature character education program, CARE, which fosters personal development, leadership skills, and social awareness.
  • From grade 3, students can join athletic teams, including cross country, swimming, and track and field.
  • Field trips, outdoor education trips, guest presenters, and over 30 cocurricular clubs offer unique learning experiences.
  • Parent participation is highly valued, with parent-teacher conferences, student-led sharing sessions, parent education workshops, grade socials, coffee mornings, and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
