For four years, the WPGA golf team has been kicking at the stubborn door that bars the entrance to the provincial gold medal. Our first bronze in 2008 felt like the door slamming on our fingers. We had it in our grasp, and it got away. Winning bronze again in 2009 and 2010, we were on the threshold, but really only crashing the party. The doorman found us out for non-VIPs and sent us on our merry way.

Today, we knocked, banged, pounded, pelted, and bombarded the door with our entire arsenal. But the team from Immaculata (how do you beat a team with a name like that?) somehow kept it on its hinges. We took silver medals away for our troubles, but were denied entrance once again.

The team played very well, scoring 310 for a two day total of 606 – yet another school record. Sean Gill was one over par for two days, finishing third overall in the individual standings. Shaun Lum continued his fine play, firing a 76. Chris Loreth was four over par for two days, finishing tied for fifth. The rest of the team acquitted themselves admirably. In the end, we lost by 5 shots to a strong school. (Immaculata’s 601 total was the second lowest in tournament history and WPGA's 606 was the third lowest) We are a little bruised and splintered from the door, but we walk away proud and with no regrets.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the golf team throughout the long season. We are grateful to our teachers for their patience and help with missed classes for these students, and we appreciate the messages of good luck. Thanks also to Mark Wong for coming out to support us this week, and special thanks to Mr. Austin for making the long trek to give the team encouragement: it meant a lot to the golfers.
